Pom Klementieff
Pom Klementieff (born 3 May 1986) is a
French actress. She attended the Cours Florent drama academy in Paris. Her
roles include Loup (2009) and Sleepless Night (2011). She is the voice of
Mantis, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
(2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (1999). Pom
Klementieff was born in Quebec City, Canada, to a Korean mother and a
French-Russian father who was working as a consul there for the French
government. Eugene Klementieff was her grandfather. Pom was her name due to the
fact that it sounds like the Korean words "spring" and
"tiger" in Korean. Klementieff lived in Canada for one year. Her
family had traveled extensively because of her father's job. They resided in
Japan as well as the Ivory Coast, before settling in France. Klementieff lost
her father to cancer around age five. Her mother was also diagnosed with
schizophrenia. Klementieff was raised in France by her aunt and uncle paternal.
Her uncle, whom she described as "like [her] second father" was
killed when she turned 18 and her older brother was killed just seven years
later, this being on her birthday. After the passing of her uncle, Klementieff
attended law school briefly to please her aunt. However, she did not find the
career path appealing. In France, she worked as a waitress and salesperson. She
began acting when she was just 19 at the Cours Florent theatre school in Paris.
After finishing her studies she was awarded a competition in theater that gave
her two years of tuition free alongside some of the top teachers at the school.
Klementieff was first to act professionally in the independent French film
Apres lui (2007). She played the role of the step-daughter of the lead
character, Catherine Deneuve. Filming the scenes required three days.
Klementieff was supposed push another person down a set staircase but fell
down. Gael Mostl kept the shot in the final film. Loup (2009) is an French film
about the Siberian reindeer herders was her first major part. She filmed for
hours in a camp far from the nearest village. The temperatures dropped to minus
zero when filming.
